The questions customers most often ask when choosing a cold storage and industrial refrigeration contractor.
Is Tan Long a contractor or an equipment distributor?
Tan Long is an industrial refrigeration contractorthat designs, manufactures and installs everything in-house. The company directly produces insulation panel, T-Light cold storage door, fabricates pressure vessel and control cabinet. Specialised equipment such as compressors, evaporators and condensers is imported from industrial manufacturers and is installed and integrated by Tan Long into a complete system.
What types of cold storage does Tan Long build?
Tan Long builds industrial cold storage across a wide range of temperatures: chill rooms, freezer rooms, ASRS automated cold stores, GSP-compliant pharmaceutical stores, and freezing systems such as IQF belts, contact plate freezers, air blast freezers and freezing tunnels. The operating range runs from +20°C down to -40°C.
Why do large-scale industrial cold stores usually use NH3 as the refrigerant?
NH3 (R717) delivers higher cooling efficiency at low evaporating temperatures, low top-up refrigerant costs, zero ozone depletion and no direct greenhouse effect. In return, NH3 demands higher standards of pipework, safety valve systems and operating procedures — this is the part the contractor must master. For small-scale stores or areas with people working continuously, freon or an intermediate glycol loop is still the more sensible option.
What factors determine the cost of building a cold store?
The deciding factors are: store volume and pallet capacity; the design temperature range (deep-freeze stores cost considerably more than chill rooms); insulation panel thickness matched to that temperature; the type of refrigerant; the level of automation; and ancillary items such as the floor, doors, electrical system and monitoring. How do you choose insulation panel thickness according to store temperature?
Based on Tan Long's field experience: air-conditioned rooms at +18 to +25°C use 50 mm PU; vegetable chill rooms at +2 to +15°C use 75 mm; fresh meat chill rooms at 0 to +4°C use 100 mm; seafood cold stores at -5 to -10°C use 100 – 125 mm; freezer rooms at -18 to -22°C use 150 mm; IQF deep-freeze rooms at -25 to -35°C use 200 mm. Using thinner panels than required raises running costs every year, so this is not an item to cut back on.

Does Tan Long also handle the electrical control and monitoring works?
Yes. Tan Long's scope covers power distribution, control cabinets fabricated in-house, PLC programming, HMI screens, SCADA integration and operational monitoring, with proactive alerts pushed to mobile devices. This lets the owner track temperature, pressure, liquid level and equipment status in real time.
