Cold storage materials are the group of items that determine the tightness and the service life of the room enclosure, yet they are usually treated as secondary when a quotation is drawn up. Tan Long supplies panels, doors, jointing accessories and sealing materials as a matched set — together with the installation work, so responsibility for tightness rests with a single party.
What cold storage materials include

- Insulated panel — EPS, PU, PIR, thickness according to the operating temperature range
- Cold storage door — hinged doors, sliding doors, high speed doors, loading dock doors
- Jointing accessories — corner trims, camlocks, V-strips, skirting trims
- Sealing materials — dedicated silicone rated for low temperatures, insulating tape
- Door gaskets and compression lock mechanisms
- Door frame heater wire for deep freezer rooms
- Dedicated lighting rated for low temperatures, with a protective cover
- Pressure relief valves for sealed chambers
- PVC strip curtains or fan shield at doors with high traffic
Why buying a matched set matters more than buying cheap
A cold room enclosure is only as good as its weakest joint. Thick panels with corner trims that do not fit, or the wrong type of door gasket, still let hot humid air in — and the whole investment in panel thickness is wasted.
When materials are bought separately from several sources, the problem usually does not show up at once but appears gradually: water collecting at the joints, ice forming around the door frame, rising electricity bills. At that point it is very hard to establish whose responsibility it is.
Three material groups that often get cut

- Joint sealing materials. A small cost with a direct effect on tightness. Cutting this is the worst saving in the whole project.
- Door frame heater wire. In a deep freezer room, without this item the door freezes to the frame, the gasket tears and a gap opens that leaks cold continuously.
- Door gasket quality. The wrong type of gasket hardens quickly at low temperature and loses its sealing ability after only a short time.
Requirements for materials in a food cold store
A store serving food, particularly for export, has additional material requirements:
- Smooth, impermeable, non-toxic surfaces that are easy to clean and disinfect
- Tight joints that leave no gaps where water and micro-organisms can accumulate
- Materials that withstand the cleaning chemicals used routinely
- Lights with a protective cover to stop breakages falling into food
- Complete material documentation for the audit file

Material selection table by temperature range
| Warehouse type | Recommended panel | Suitable door type | Door frame heater | Unit price |
| Chill rooms for vegetables and fruit | PU 75mm | Hinged or sliding | Not required | Contact us for a quote. |
| Chill rooms for fresh meat and dairy | PU 100mm | Hinged or sliding | Not required | Contact us for a quote. |
| Frozen food stores | PU 150mm | Sliding or high speed | Need | Contact us for a quote. |
| Deep freezer and freezing rooms | PU 200mm | Dedicated sliding | Need | Contact us for a quote. |
| Stores with high traffic | By temperature range | High speed | By temperature range | Contact us for a quote. |
The table above is the common guide. The specific configuration is settled after a survey and a heat load calculation for each project.
Scope of supply and services
- Supply of individual materials or a complete package for the project
- Panels cut to size, limiting unnecessary joints
- Installation of the room enclosure and the doors
- Floor insulation and waterproofing
- Tightness acceptance testing before the refrigeration system is installed
- Supply of material documentation for the audit file
Why choose Tan Long
One party accountable for tightness. When the materials and the installation come from the same company, there is no blame shifting between the panel supplier, the door supplier and the installer.
Materials selected by heat load, not by price list. Tan Long advises on thickness and type based on the temperature range and the actual operating conditions of the project.
More than 20 years installing industrial cold stores, with full command of both the room enclosure and the refrigeration system.
Frequently asked questions about cold storage materials
What do cold storage materials include?
Insulated panels, cold storage doors, jointing accessories such as corner trims and camlocks, sealing materials, door gaskets, door frame heater wire for deep freezer rooms, dedicated lighting, pressure relief valves, and strip curtains or air curtains.
Why buy materials as a matched set rather than separately?
Because the enclosure is only as good as its weakest joint. Thick panels with corner trims that do not fit, or the wrong type of door gasket, still let hot humid air in. Buying separately from several sources also makes it hard to establish responsibility when a problem arises.
Which material items get cut most often?
Joint sealing materials, door frame heater wire for deep freezer rooms, and door gasket quality. All three cost little but have a direct effect on tightness and on the electricity bill.
Is door frame heater wire mandatory for a deep freezer room?
It is strongly needed. Without it the door freezes to the frame and has to be forced open, which tears the gasket and opens a gap that leaks cold over a long period.
What extra do materials for an export food store need?
Smooth impermeable surfaces that are easy to clean, tight joints where micro-organisms cannot accumulate, materials that withstand cleaning chemicals, lights with a protective cover, and complete material documentation for the audit file.
Does Tan Long sell materials separately?
Yes. Tan Long supplies materials individually or as a complete package for the project, together with panel cutting to size, installation work and tightness acceptance testing.
